John Steins
John Steins has been making prints since 1978 in his Dawson studio. Although he has made intaglio prints on his etching press his focus is mainly on relief printing, i.e. woodcuts, lino and wood engraving. He was trained by his artist father and at a special five year arts program at Fisher Park High School in Ottawa. Upon graduation he went to work at Vickers & Bensen Advertising in Toronto. His interests now involve hybrid printmaking combining traditional techniques with digital technologies. As Mayor of Dawson City John is one of a few Canadian municipal leaders who is also a practicing artist.
