Lillian Loponen

In the Yukon since 1979, Lillian is a mother of three wondrous sons. Born of Finnish Canadian parents, she was raised in the logging community of Longlac, northwest Ontario. Her Finnish background connects her closely to the land and a love of the natural world.

A quiet power, a softly spoken understanding between herself and Canada's Yukon; its timelessness, haunting mists and spirit energies of living landscape reflected in her distinct style.

Whitehorse 2005 will see a Loponen mural in the Canada Games Multiplex. Toronto 2000, an exhibition chronicling the history of Canadian watercolours 1925-2000 included a Loponen image. Royal Collection, Windsor Castle, England 1985, one of her watercolours accepted into a Canadian collection.
