Peter Kazda

Peter is a long-time Yukon resident who lives in Faro. He is fascinated by nature and people in the north. His Wood Carving made with local materials is internationally known and represents parts of northern life. His art can be seen at galleries in Whitehorse, Dawson, Watson lake, NWT-Yellowknife, and also in Europe and the USA.

One of Peters prominent pieces is on display for the Canada Winter Games. It can be seen in the Canadian Winter Games Center Multiplex main Foyer in Whitehorse. This piece is based on a tree that suffered the ravages of a forest fire, it is over twelve feet tall and Peter has carved several faces of northern spirits into its dynamic surface area.

Peter began his quest at an early age being born into a family of artist. Peter started carving when he was ten years old as a hobby. Peters gift was apparent even at this early age as he received request from friends for his work Which he made gifts of. Peter made the leap to being a professional artist 8 years ago when many people were requesting special projects of him including custom theme work to match their home design. The demand for Peters work has been steady for the past 5 years.

Although Peters favorite medium to work with is wood, he has also worked with several other mediums including, glass (his second favorite medium) some of the disciplines he has studied and mastered are as follows. Glass blowing, lamp working, glass baking, glass sculpturing, clay, marble, paper making. Peters creativity shows up in his day to day life when you see the diamond willow furniture and glass ornamentation in his house.
