Ann MacKenzie

Ann was born and lived in the highlands of Scotland on a sheep farm. Ironically it was not until she arrived in the Yukon in 1974 and joined the Northern Fibres Guild that she was introduced to spinning, weaving and later on, felting. Felting has been her passion ever since.

She is attracted to felting by it's simplicity, as an excellent medium for colour and freedom of expression. Being as simple or as complicated as you want it to be it has allowed her to teach in the schools from kindergarten to grade 12, and to use it as therapy for the mentally and physically challenged.

Felting is a very old skill. She is attracted to countries that make felt today for shelter and clothing. She recently travelled to Mongolia to see a yurt made and to help local felters with design. She has attended two World Felt Symposiums, most recently in Hungary where she feels a very special bonding with people from all over the world who felt.
